Release Resistance & Discover Acceptance: Tips S. Verrall, September 24, 2023September 24, 2023 “Letting go of resistance and finding acceptance” is a powerful concept often associated with mindfulness, meditation, and personal growth. It involves a shift in mindset and a change in how you approach challenges, emotions, and life’s ups and downs. Here’s a bit more insight on how to release resistance: Recognize Resistance: Start by acknowledging when you’re resisting something. Resistance can come in many forms, such as denying reality, avoiding difficult emotions, or clinging to a fixed idea of how things should be. Practice Mindfulness: Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment. By practicing mindfulness, you can become more aware of your resistance and the reasons behind it. Acceptance Doesn’t Mean Approval: Acceptance doesn’t mean you have to like or approve of everything that happens in your life. Instead, it means acknowledging the reality of a situation without trying to change it or deny it. For example, you may not approve of or like being obese. However, by accepting your obesity in this moment, you’re merely acknowledging the reality of it without making excuses for it. Acceptance doesn’t mean surrendering to the situation (in this case obesity), it simply means you acknowledge the truthfulness of its presence and make adjustments moving forward. Embrace Change: Life is constantly changing, and sometimes we resist change because it feels uncomfortable or uncertain. Embracing change, even when it’s challenging, can lead to personal growth and a more peaceful mindset. A comforting quote when faced with the challenges of change: “The only thing that never chances is that everything changes.” (Louis L’Amour) Let Go of Control: Trying to control everything can lead to resistance. Recognize that there are many things in life you can’t control, and it’s often more beneficial to adapt to the circumstances rather than fight against them. “God/Universe/Whatever, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Practice Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with kindness and compassion, especially when you’re facing difficulties. Self-criticism and self-judgment can fuel resistance. Seek Support: Sometimes, finding acceptance can be easier with the support of friends, family, or a therapist. Talking about your feelings and challenges with others can help you gain perspective. Set Realistic Expectations: Sometimes resistance arises from having unrealistic expectations of yourself or others. Adjusting your expectations to be more in line with reality can reduce resistance. Cultivate Gratitude: Focusing on the things you’re grateful for can shift your perspective from resistance to acceptance. Gratitude can help you see the positive aspects of your life even in challenging times. Practice Patience: Acceptance often takes time and practice. Be patient with yourself as you work on letting go of resistance and embracing acceptance. Start To Release Resistance Today Remember that finding acceptance is a personal journey, and it may not happen overnight. It’s about developing a mindset and approach to life that allows you to navigate difficulties with more ease and grace.
